We had a half day today, so it was the perfect day to bring my dog Wrigley to meet the class for the first time. Wrigley has been coming to Brighton to visit since she was a puppy and LOVES kids. We took the opportunity to teach Wrigley how to write true stories in our writing lesson ;)

Videos of Stations
We learned the poem and hand clap, "A Sailor Went to Sea." The class loves to practice their hand claps with their friends and teachers.
We have also been practicing reading by doing reader's theater during stations. Pairs of student pick a play and read the lines, we are practicing our fluency, reading heart words, pointing to each word as we go and expression!

Elephant and Piggie
We had so much fun going to the Seattle Children's Theater to see Elephant and Piggie! We walked around the fountain, ate lunch at the Seattle Center and then saw the play.
Veteran's Day
We performed the Pledge of Allegiance in sign language at the Veteran's Day assembly and we also met with our buddies to make stained glass patriotic art.
Pinkalicious Inspired Class Book
I don't know how I haven't heard of the book Pinkalicious until this year! I love this book and was inspired for us to make a Pinkalicious inspired class book. We each chose a color and something that we ate too much of to turn that color. I tinted their pictures with the color of their choice which the kids thought was hilarious :)
We ate too many.....
cupcakes
lobsters
cupcakes
bubblegum
watermelons
grapes
cherries

Tree Science
We did two fun science activities this week to learn a little more about trees! First we watched this video:
Then we found scraps from the recycle bin to soak in water and turn into new paper! The kids got to blend up the soaked paper, push it through a mesh frame and then form it into a shape of their choice. We also got a little crazy with some glitter :)
We also made some leaf inspired art by melting crayons onto wax paper and then dropping dried leaves onto our creations!
Zero the Hero Day
On our 40th day of school, Zero the Hero brought us three different kinds of Oreos to try (because they are shaped like zeroes). We tasted them, graphed them, tallied them and talked about our data! I love teaching graphing because it is so much fun to walk around and collect the data and the kids get really excited about which one will get the most votes.
