Pinkalicious Inspired Class Book

I don't know how I haven't heard of the book Pinkalicious until this year! I love this book and was inspired for us to make a Pinkalicious inspired class book.  We each chose a color and something that we ate too much of to turn that color.  I tinted their pictures with the color of their choice which the kids thought was hilarious :)

We ate too many.....
cupcakes
lobsters
cupcakes
bubblegum
watermelons
grapes
cherries
cupcakes
tomatoes
plums

Tree Science

We did two fun science activities this week to learn a little more about trees! First we watched this video:

Then we found scraps from the recycle bin to soak in water and turn into new paper! The kids got to blend up the soaked paper, push it through a mesh frame and then form it into a shape of their choice. We also got a little crazy with some glitter :)

We also made some leaf inspired art by melting crayons onto wax paper and then dropping dried leaves onto our creations!

Zero the Hero Day

On our 40th day of school, Zero the Hero brought us three different kinds of Oreos to try (because they are shaped like zeroes).  We tasted them, graphed them, tallied them and talked about our data!  I love teaching graphing because it is so much fun to walk around and collect the data and the kids get really excited about which one will get the most votes.

The Feelings Bag

I started a new system for students who need some time by themselves to cool down.  We call it the feelings bag and inside are snacks, calm bottles, a feelings journal, fun new markers and a drawing activity.  Students can visit the bag anytime if they need some time alone.  They can feel happy, sad or mad to visit the bag! We have a glitter calm jar to shake up and a magnetic chip calm jar to play with.  The kids are really excited about it and so am I!

More Phonics Work

Here is our new strategy for sounding out and blending words together in our small groups!

Pie Math and Writing

To start off November, we graphed our favorite type of pie.  The kids could choose apple, pumpkin or other.  Pumpkin won!

Then, we wrote descriptive words for what pie tastes like and we came up with some creative toppings.

Then the kids came up with their own types of pie creations and we wrote about them!
