Dinosaur Week Continued

We started off our second day of dinosaur week by making a schema chart, we put our current knowledge in one color and our new knowledge in a different color.  When we find a misconception we can move our post-it note easily down to that box.  I was so impressed with how many specific facts they already knew about dinosaurs!

After our introductory lesson to dinosaurs we dove right into continents and learning about specific dinosaurs.  I told them a little about Pangea and what the earth was like when dinosaurs were around, I showed them a few pictures and then sent them off to make a labeled drawing of Pangea.  After that, we learned the names of the 7 continents and sang Dr. Jean's song to remember their names.  The class drew another picture of the earth with seven continents to end that lesson.

The next day, we did a rotation in the afternoon to learn about the tyrannosaurus rex.  We put post-it notes in books whenever we found a new fact about the t-rex.  After finding lots of new facts, we chose some to add to a bubble map.  If a student finished their bubble map they got to choose their next activity.  Set up around the room they could:
write a story about a t-rex
draw dinosaurs
work on a dinosaur puzzle
watch dinosaur videos on the iPad

Here are a few videos I put on QR codes for the kids to scan!

  1. What other Kindergarten class would be teaching kids about Pangea, so very cool! What a great intro to geography, geology, paleontology, etc!
