Auction Project

We finally finished our class auction project this weekend! I've been planning on doing this project ever since I saw it on Pinterest, and it is so cool to see the results!  My brother welded the frame for us and my dad helped sand blast it, paint it, and he made the firebox for the middle.  The kids decorated the tiles to go around the outside.  The tiles are my favorite part, they are so colorful and show their personalities. We will attach the tiles using fire mortar and grout so it will last through the heat and the rain.

  1. I am interested in doing this project for our school auction. Can you give me some instructions on how you did this project? What kind of paint? How do you put the tiles on? It looks great!

  2. Thanks! My dad and brother welded the frame of the fire pit, but you could but a fire pit at Lowe's or on Amazon. Just make sure there is a wide enough flat lip around the edge to mount the tiles. I got the tiles from a paint your own pottery place, they let us take the tiles to the classroom and they let us borrow the paint and brushes to use. When we were done painting, they fired and glazed them. We attached them using a fire mortar paste usually used for fireplaces. I asked Lowe's what they recommended and they pointed me in the right direction. When that was set, we went around it with a normal grout. I hope that helps!
